NEVADA COUNTY, Calif. – As the winter chill finally settles in and we swap our Go Bags for puffy coats and Stay Bags, there is a somewhat questionable but funny wardrobe tradition that unites us all: the incredibly festive, undeniably itchy, ugly holiday sweater.

Friday, Dec. 19th, marks National Ugly Sweater Day. The one day of the year when fashion faux pas are not only forgiven but celebrated. Here at YubaNet, we believe that news isn’t always about whatโ€™s going wrong, itโ€™s also about what keeps us connected. In the spirit of fostering a little levity across the area, we want to curate a gallery of our readers’ most ‘spectacular’ knitwear.

Whether you are sporting a thrift-store gem found in Grass Valley, a battery-operated light-up vest in Truckee, or a homemade masterpiece created in Nevada City, we want to see it and share it with the world.

We’re looking for the funny, the sentimental, and the downright inexplicable. To have your photo included in the gallery, text it to 530-478-9600 or email it to engage@yubanet.com.

Please include your first name and your town. If there is a story behind the sweater, tell us! Was it a gift from a family member or friend with a ‘unique’ sense of humor? Is it a lucky sweater you’ve worn every December for a decade or more?

We will be sharing your photos and stories throughout the day on Friday to spread a little warmth – regardless of what the thermometer will say.
