Rocklin, Calif. April 11, 2018 – On Friday April 27, at 7:30pm, the Sierra College Natural History Museum brings renowned actor Lee Stetson back to Sierra College for his annual portrayal of John Muir. This year’s performance is “John Muir is Back, And Boy! Is He TICKED OFF!”, a powerful and delightful one-man play. Tickets are available through Brown Paper Tickets at: https://muirplay2018.bpt.me or at the box office one half hour before show time. Ticket are complimentary for current Museum members, $15 general, and $10 students/seniors.

Stetson portrays famed naturalist John Muir as a deeply troubled and bitterly disappointed spirit, who has returned to once again roam his beloved planet and to express his love for nature and his frustration with us.  Despite a lifetime devoted to preserving wild lands and wildlife, his success as Father of the National Park system, and his vision in founding the Sierra Club, Muir finds before him today’s unimaginable environmental evils.  He sees his beloved glaciers rapidly melting, his “plant people” disappearing, and the daily inexcusable extinctions of his “fellow mortals”.  He is righteously ticked off, and is now on an intense search to find those responsible – “Lord Man” and his minions.  He implores us to become better beasts.  Along the way, he’ll be reminded of – and will share with us – many of his most memorable, astonishing and often humorous wilderness adventures. The conservation movement lives on in this often hilarious and sometimes passionate plea to keep the spirit of John Muir alive.

Lee Stetson’s plays include several one-person shows based on the life of naturalist John Muir. These productions, with Stetson in the title role, have been presented in Yosemite National Park since 1983 to thousands of visitors, as well as on tour through the country. Stetson’s career has included founding and managing the Hawaii Performing Arts Company, being the Artistic Manager of both the Hawaii Theatre Festival and the Antique Theatre Festival of Idaho, and freelance directing throughout the Northwest and in Los Angeles. Stetson is interviewed and used as the voice of John Muir in Ken Burns’ PBS documentary, “The National Parks, America’s Best Idea.”

Tickets are available online now at: https://muirplay2018.bpt.me. Tickets are complimentary for current Museum members, $15 General, and $10 students and seniors (65+).
