Grass Valley, CA – Sierra Master Chorale is an esteemed auditioned community choir under the music direction of Alison Skinner. Auditions for new singers are currently open for all voice parts.
The chorale performs two concerts in December and two concerts in May, always with the InConcert Sierra chamber orchestra. Rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings for 13 weeks prior to the concerts. Interested singers should have some choral experience or prior vocal training.
“Alison is a clear, motivating, yet humble leader whose passion for and knowledge of choral music is inspiring. She also has a great sense of humor and rehearsals are both hard work and fun,” says Chris Bennett, soprano.
Beyond the thrill of singing in performance with an orchestra and having the stimulation of challenging beautiful music with other singers in our community, there is a plethora of scientifically proven, encouraging reasons to become involved.
According to a study conducted by Harvard University, singing decreases stress levels and increases the functionality of our immune system as well as our hearts. Research led by psychologist Nick Stewart of Bath University indicates that choir participants enjoy a greater feeling of togetherness and being part of a collective endeavor than others involved in different social activities.

“In transition times in my life, music has always served as a bridge and even a lifejacket to keep me from being swept away. And the communal, triumphant choral experience when all voices join as one has given me some of my most deeply precious moments. I love my fellow choir members and those who help us make music more each season,” says Bennett.
The Sierra Master Chorale is part of the local classical music presenting organization, InConcert Sierra. For more information, visit www.inconcertsierra.org or call 530-273-3990.
