GRASS VALLEY, Calif. January 5, 2017 – The first baby born at Dignity Health Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital in the new year, Miles Henry Mathiasen, arrived at 5:24 a.m. on January 2, weighing 8 pounds, 1 ounce, and 21 inches in length.

This is the first child for parents Tine and Tavish Mathiasen, who moved to Grass Valley two years ago. Tine is a Grass Valley native and Tavish is originally from Gilroy.

“It’s pretty special – it’s the most amazing thing,” said father Tavish about the arrival of their son. Tine shared his sentiment, adding, “We’ve really been looking forward to starting our family.”

The family received a red wagon full of baby items provided by local merchants, a tradition made possible each year through generous community businesses.

We wish to congratulate the Mathiasens, and warmly welcome Miles to our community.
