NEVADA CITY, CA – Sierra Theatre Company is delighted to announce the world premiere of Peach Boy and the Moon Princess, an original production weaving together two beloved Japanese folktales into a single magical journey. The show runs April 30 through May 9 at the historic Nevada Theatre in downtown Nevada City.
In the first tale, we meet Momotarō—a brave boy who, with the help of loyal animal friends, defeats fearsome ogres and restores peace to his village. In the second, a glowing bamboo stalk reveals Kaguya-hime, the Moon Princess, who is lovingly raised on Earth before returning to her home on the Moon in a bittersweet farewell. Written by Mathias and Michele Edwards, the two stories create a richly imaginative theatrical experience celebrating courage, love, and the power of storytelling.
“Bringing these kids together onstage to tell stories that have been passed down for generations is truly special,” says director Paulette Gilbert. “Peach Boy and the Moon Princess is a celebration of wonder—for young audiences discovering these tales for the first time, and for adults who will find something deeply moving in them all over again.”

There will be two school matinees on May 1 and 8 at 10am! These shows are open to grades 1 – 6 and there will be a brief Q&A with the actors following the performances.
