Nevada County, Calif.– Nevada County residents are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible for the County’s new emergency alert system, Nevada County Alerts, which is replacing the CodeRED notification system previously used for emergency alerts and evacuations.

Residents are urged to sign up at ReadyNevadaCounty.org/EmergencyAlerts before first responders conduct a test of the system May 28. Residents who register before the test will be able to confirm they successfully received the alert, helping provide peace of mind before wildfire season and other emergencies.

“Signing up now gives residents the opportunity to make sure they are connected before an actual emergency happens,” said Alex Keeble-Toll, director of Nevada County’s Office of Emergency Services. “When wildfire or other emergencies occur, timely information can make a critical difference.”

Though data from the old CodeRED system has been migrated to the new system, residents should still opt in and verify their information. You need an email or phone number and at least one address (up to five) that you would like to be alerted about. This can include home, work, school and family member addresses.

The new Nevada County Alerts will come from up to five different phone numbers. This helps make sure alerts go out quickly, even when large volumes are sent at once. Residents are urged to add these phone numbers to their contacts to easily recognize an emergency alert:

  • 530-394-6160
  • 530-248-7554
  • 530-248-7559
  • 530-248-7564
  • 530-385-0422

Evacuation zone numbers remain the same and are used when law enforcement, such as the Sheriff’s Office, announces evacuations. Residents should know their zone.
