Writing can be a powerful healing tool, and this next free, six-week course begins on Thursday, September 11, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital, Bldg. 4, 155 Glasson Way in Grass Valley.
The course offers cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers a creative outlet plus a heartfelt connection with others facing similar challenges โ people who are ready to support each other on their healing journeys.
No writing experience is required. Basic writing tips, imaginative prompts and timed writing exercises, often followed by insightful discussions, are part of every session. While participants are invited to share what they write, they are never under any pressure to do so. Privacy is respected, and confidentiality is key in this safe, gentle space.
Writing coach and author Courtney Ferguson is the facilitator. She is also a cancer survivor as well as a caregiver.
Writing to Heal meets weekly and will be presented from Thursday, September 11 through Thursday, October 16. It is one of a variety of cancer-support groups offered by Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital and Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Foundation (www.SupportSierraNevada.org).
