Photo from the Deadwood RX show the layer of pine needles that has fallen since ignition 10/4/19 for Unit 8. The needles have formed a new layer of continuous fuel that is reburning with in the units.

November 5, 2019 – Smoke may be seen on the Foresthill Divide, near the Seed Orchard and further up the hill near Humbug Ridge, where Tahoe NF performed prescribed burns during the past month.

Stumps and other larger fuels were still smoldering after the burns and dead needles that came off trees during the wind events can ignite and put up smoke.

Tahoe firefighters are staffing these areas throughout the wind events and ensuring this burning stays within the containment lines of the prescribed burn areas.

Safety of firefighters, the public and our communities are our top priorities. We are working around the clock to keep these areas in check, as well as putting out abandoned campfires or other fire issues that may arise during this time of elevated fire danger.
