January 21, 2019 – On January 15th, Governor Newsom announced that there will be a special election for the State Senate District 1 seat that was vacated by Ted Gaines on January 8th. Nevada County and ten other counties that are within the Senate District 1 are will be participating in this election.

The special primary election will take place on March 26th and the special general election will take place on June 4th. Under the Voters Choice Act, all registered Nevada County voters will receive a ballot in the mail for the State Senate District 1 election.  Final details on Vote Center and ballot drop-off locations will be confirmed and posted on the Nevada County Election’s Office website soon.

Qualified community members considering running for this office can get Signature In-Lieu Petition papers from Nevada County’s Election Office at the Eric Rood Administration Center. The deadline for filing the Signature In-Lieu Petition is January 22nd. All other candidate filing paperwork, including nomination papers, are due on January 31st.
