GRASS VALLEY, Calif. April 3, 2018 – At 7:17am  Grass Valley Engine 1 & Truck 2, Nevada Co. Consolidated Engine 84, Nevada City Engine 5482, Cal Fire Engine 2352 with Nevada Co Consolidated Battalion 3 and Grass Valley Battalion 1 were dispatched to a residential structure fire in the 500 Block of Penstock.

Grass Valley Engine 1 and Nevada Co. Consolidated Battalion 3 arrived first to find a working fire at the residence with exposures threatened. The dynamic, coordinated fire attack saved the threatened exposures, fire was contained to the home of origin. The occupants of the home had evacuated the structure prior to arrival of firefighters, there were no injures to the occupants.

Prior to arrival of firefighters a 5 gallon LPG tank failed causing an explosion known as a BLEVE- boiling liquid expanding vapor explosion. The BLEVE/explosion was the loud sound heard in the area. Cause of the fire remains under investigation.
