Truckee, Calif. June 14, 2019 – The Truckee Library is diving head first into a Summer Learning Program full of fun and engaging activities to keep children reading and learning all summer long.

This year kids and teens are invited to Blastoff for Reading! with events that focus on science, art, space, and of course, fun. The Truckee Library will feature many exciting special guests, including Conservation Ambassadors (formerly Wild Things), Izzi Tooinsky, local children’s author Celeste Leon, the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe, and Traveling Lantern Theatre Company.

This year’s Summer Learning Program Kicks-Off on June 27th with a huge kick-off party and a visit from local magician Bill Sparacino, who will be performing astonishing magic tricks for all to enjoy. The Kick-Off Party starts at 3pm with activities and snacks followed by magic at 4pm. The library will also be providing a number of interactive programs throughout the summer, such as Adventures in Science and Space, a Robot Party, Summer Crafternoons, Nailed it or Failed it, Sime Time for Teens, Henna Designs for Teens, a Messy Art Party, and more. The Summer Learning Program will continue through the summer, ending on August 14th.

In addition to fun programs, the library has created a learning challenge for Pre-Readers, Independent Readers, and Teens. Every person who signs up for the program will receive a FREE book, donated by the Friends of the Truckee Library, to start them on their reading journey, and a learning log with prompts of new things for them read, places to visit, or things to do. People can sign up all summer long at the Truckee Library. Once completed, they can return the learning logs to their nearest library by August 14th to receive a fun prize as well as an entry into a raffle for a number of exciting prizes including an iPad, a drone, a Lego set, a play kitchen, gift certificates, and more. Those that finish before August 10th will also receive free ride passes for the Nevada County Fair.

New to our Summer Learning Program this year is the introduction of our Summer Lunches with the Library. Thanks to a partnership with the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District and the Truckee Donner Recreation and Park District, the Truckee Library will be helping to provide free lunches to children ages 0-18 throughout the summer at Meadow Park. The program will run Monday – Friday from July 8th – August 2nd. Lunches will be served from 12:15 to 12:45pm Monday through Friday. Following lunch, the library will provide interactive activities for kids that change daily until 1:15pm. There is no registration or income requirement for this program so all are welcome to join in on the fun.
