Douglas MacDuff, age 27

NEVADA CITY, Calif. January 4, 2019 – On January 3rd, 2019, around 1 PM, Douglas Ralph MacDuff, 27, from Grass Valley, was involved in an altercation in the 27000 block of Sweetland Road in the North San Juan area of Nevada County. During the altercation, Mr. MacDuff allegedly discharged a handgun at another person, causing great bodily injury.

Mr. MacDuff purportedly shot the 34-year-old male victim at least one time in the torso. Mr. MacDuff fled on foot from the scene after a stolen vehicle he was occupying crashed into a hillside. A female occupant of the stolen vehicle and her dog received minor injuries from the altercation – the injuries may have been the result of a rock thrown by the male gunshot victim. The reason for the altercation and motive for the attack are still under investigation.

Paramedics transported the male gunshot victim and the female who had been in the stolen vehicle to Sutter Roseville Hospital; Animal Control transported the dog to a local veterinarian for treatment.

Deputies have not recovered the handgun used in this shooting, as it may still be in MacDuff’s possession. Mr. MacDuff is still at large and the public should consider Mr. MacDuff armed and dangerous. We ask anyone with information in this case to contact the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit at 530-265-1263.
