Suspicious device disarmed in Grass Valley yesterday either a hoax or a crude incendiary device

August 20, 2019 – Yesterday morning, a suspicious device was located behind a commercial building in the 1100 block of East Main Street. GVPD Officers decided to enlist the help of the Placer County EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) team in order to safely disarm the device. They responded quickly with their robot, affectionately named “Karl”.

Karl did his job well and kept officers and the public out of harms way while disarming the potentially destructive device. Although the device was determined to be either an elaborate hoax or a crude attempt at an incendiary device, GV detectives are continuing an investigation to identify a suspect or motive.
