Nevada City, Calif. November 12, 2016 – The Center for Nonprofit Leadership (CNL) has joined #GivingTuesday, for the third year, to recognize and promote a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Our 73 member organizations are participating in various ways.
Occurring this year on November 29, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and after the shopping events Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday. It kicks-‐off the holiday giving season and inspires people to collaborate in improving their community and to give back in impactful ways to the organizations and causes they support.
Those who are interested in joining CNL’s members for #GivingTuesday should visit cnlsierra.org. to view Wish Lists from our members. There are also links to their websites. Every organization can use financial support, but some organizations are looking for volunteers or specific items to help them fulfill their missions. Members have listed ways in which specific dollar amounts can accomplish specific goals. With 73 member organizations covering a wide variety of sectors such as animals, arts, children, senior, and health services, environment, housing, legal, and community support, there is a cause for everyone.
#GivingTuesday started by 92Y, a cultural center in New York City that, since 1874, has been bringing people together around its core values of community service and giving back − conceptualized #GivingTuesday as a new way of linking individuals and causes to strengthen communities and encourage giving. In 2015, the fourth year of the movement, #GivingTuesday brought together over 45,000 partners in 71 countries and helped raise nearly $117 Million online in the US alone.
