Grass Valley, CA – The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) is investigating a daytime residential burglary that resulted in the apprehension of three suspects shortly after 1:00pm today, 11/7/2025. The incident began at approximately 11:45 a.m., when NCSO deputies responded to a reported burglary in progress at a property on Clear Creek Place, off McCourtney Road and near the Clear Creek Elementary School.

Upon NCSO deputies’ arrival, three subjects began to flee on foot from the victim’s property. A female suspect was quickly detained, as the other two male subjects continued to run. As additional deputies arrived and with the help of California Highway Patrol Officers ground and air support, they quickly established a perimeter and began to search for the evading subjects. NCSO Sheriff K9 Vito and his handler Deputy King also joined the search, tracking the suspects into a densely wooded area, where they were found hiding but refused deputies’ orders to surrender.

K9 Vito was deployed to assist in taking the subjects into custody and successfully apprehended one of the men, which encouraged the final remaining suspect to surrender without further incident.

A stolen ATV key belonging to one of the victim’s vehicles was located with one of the suspects, and a vehicle parked nearby that was discovered to be associated with the suspects, contained additional suspicious property including several sets of shaved keys, which are known to be tools used in auto theft.

Arrested were 26-year-old Haley Koen of Penn Valley, 37-year-old Antonio Medina, and 54-year-old Jamie Esquivel. The residence locations of Medina and Esquivel remain under investigation currently. All three were booked into the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility and charged with Burglary, Conspiracy, and Resisting Arrest.
