The Sierra Roots/No Place To Go Project is asking its supporters to come to the Nevada County Planning Commission meeting at 1:30 p.m. this Thursday (10/24) at the Rood Center in Nevada City.

The purpose is to show and tell the commissioners that concerned and compassionate citizens want the proposed tiny homes on wheels ordinance amended to include all homes on wheels, namely trainers and RVs.

โ€œThere is a critical housing shortage, and the only truly affordable and available housing for low-wage workers and people on fixed income are trailers and RVs,โ€ said Tom Durkin, creative director of the Sierra Roots/No Place To Go Project.

Several thousand people already live safely in illegal trailers and RVs, but they are at risk of be forced to relocate from their homes by county Code Compliance. Furthermore, the property owners who rent them space risk fines and penalties.

โ€œItโ€™s inexcusable that the county does not allow people to live safely inside in trailers and RVs when there is no other housing available to housing-ready people experiencing homelessness,โ€ Durkin said. โ€œWe are planning a civil and respectful show of support, and we invite all concerned citizens to join us in advocating housing for the people by the people.โ€
