GRASS VALLEY, Calif. September 9, 2018 – On September 8th, 2018 the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call reporting a shooting that occurred in the 15000 block of Niels Meade Drive in Grass Valley. The information initially provided was that a neighbor had shot himself. Upon arrival a deputy found the victim, 25 year-old Jacob P. Halleib, bleeding heavily from his head with a friend performing CPR. The deputy took over CPR until medics arrived and eventually transported Halleib. Halleib was ultimately flown to Sutter Roseville Trauma Center where he was listed in critical condition.

Detectives from the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit were called to the scene and after conducting interviews with the witnesses; it was found that Halleib had not actually shot himself as initially reported. Detectives believe the shooting was unintentional, but determined gross negligence was a key factor and arrested Joshua Aaron Crook DOB: 12/07/1991. Joshua was later booked into the Nevada County Jail on charges of willfully discharging a firearm in a grossly negligent manner and has a bail set at $10,000.00.

Detectives are continuing to monitor Halleib’s medical condition for any changes.

The investigation into the shooting continues.
