As part of the Downtown Street Rehabilitation Project, the City’s contractor will be performing the main switchover of water distribution facilities on S Auburn St, between Main St and Neal St beginning June 30, 2025 at 9pm.
Work will require a complete shutdown of the water system along this segment and in the immediate vicinity. Customers will experience a loss of water service during the outage, which may last until 11am July 1, 2025, but is expected to be restored sooner.
Additionally, a common consequence of major shutdowns is brown water in the area due to iron deposits in the pipes that are stirred up with changes in flows and pressures. Water discoloration can be cleared up once service has been restored by flushing pipes with running water.
S Auburn St, between Main St and Neal St will be closed to through traffic for underground utility line work June 30, 2025 beginning at 9pm through July 1, 2025 at 9am.
Traffic control attendants will assist in maintaining access to businesses, however through traffic will be required to use an alternate route.
