Nevada City Calif. – The Nevada County Elections Office invites members of the public to observe a randomized alphabet drawing to determine the order of some candidate names on the ballot for the Nov. 3, 2026 General Election.
The drawing will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 13 at the Nevada County Elections Office, 950 Maidu Ave., Suite 210, Nevada City. It will determine the order of state Senate and Assembly candidates on the ballot. It will be livestreamed on the Nevada County Elections Facebook page.
Rather than appearing in traditional alphabetical order, candidates’ names are arranged according to the randomly selected alphabet. This process is required by California Elections Code and is designed to ensure fairness in ballot design by preventing any candidate from consistently benefiting from standard alphabetical order.
The California Secretary of State’s Office will conduct a randomized alphabet drawing at Aug. 13 at 11
a.m. to determine the order of all other candidate names. This includes statewide contests, state Board of Equalization, U.S. representatives in Congress, county offices; city, school and special district offices. The drawing will be broadcast live on the office’s YouTube page.
