MARYSVILLE October 19, 2017 – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) District 3 is alerting motorists to the National Weather Service’s notice of a Winter Weather Advisory for Thursday night, October 19 through noon Friday, October 20 for the higher elevations of the Sierra mountains.
Snow accumulations may occur on Interstate 80 over Donner Pass and on U.S. Highway 50 over Echo Summit with chain controls possible after midnight Thursday. Gusty winds may also reduce visibility.
Motorists are advised that wet and slippery roadways reduce tire traction, especially at high vehicle speeds. Hydroplaning can result in loss of driver control. Motorists are encouraged to slow down and observe the winter driving tips found at http://www.dot.ca.gov/cttravel/winter.html.
Caltrans will issue traffic updates on these and other roadway conditions in District 3 on Twitter and on Facebook. Use Caltrans’ QuickMap at quickmap.dot.ca.gov/ for real-time traffic information, including chain control status, or download the QuickMap app on iTunes or Google Play. Motorists can also use the California Highway Information Network (CHIN) automated phone service by calling 1-800-427-ROAD (7623).
