Nevada County, Calif. — Wildfire-Ready Coalition of Nevada County will hold two special workshops this month for new and existing Firewise Community Leaders. Renewal applications are due November 20. Getting your renewal or new application ready and submitted in October or early November, ahead of the deadline, is recommended by CAL FIRE.
“These workshops are essential for folks who are forming a new Firewise Community and existing leaders who need to update Action Plans or Assessments this year or have questions about any part of the process,” said Jo Ann Fites-Kaufman, Wildfire-Ready Coalition president and a National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Firewise USA Regional Coordinator.
CAL FIRE and NFPA Firewise USA update their application and renewal requirements every year. These workshops will cover the new mapping system and tips on the latest requirements.
Leaders are strongly encouraged to take advantage of these special workshops and open office hours, said Fites-Kaufman. “Bring your questions and laptops. We’ll help you get your application done. Having an experienced Firewise leader help you through the steps makes it so much easier.”
The workshops will be held on Saturday, Sept. 19, 1-4 p.m. and Tuesday, Sept. 29, 5-8 p.m., in the Gene Albaugh Room, Madelyn Helling Library, Nevada City. They will cover:
- NFPA Firewise USA Assessment and Action Plans: How to write a new one or update an old one to meet CAL FIRE requirements.
- Overview of latest information and tips for a successful CAL FIRE and NFPA review.
- Portal accounts, gathering and entering investments (volunteer hours and money spent).
Bring your laptop. This hands-on workshop is devoted to working on your Assessment, Action Plan and Investments, with experienced coaches on hand to walk you through the process.
