WASHINGTON, D.C., September 21, 2018 – In response to reports that the Republican leadership of the Senate Judiciary Committee plans to reject a proposal by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford regarding her possible testimony next week, by asking for conditions including moving the hearing ahead to Wednesday instead of Thursday, AFJ President Nan Aron released the following statement:

“Everything about Dr. Blasey Ford’s offer to testify bespeaks her sincerity, her dedication to seeing the truth brought to light, and her commitment to the safety and security of her family at this difficult time.  For the politicians who are trying to jam this nomination through at all costs to now reject her offer and insist on more haste is unconscionable.  For them to further insist on conditions such as the use of an outside counsel to question Dr. Blasey Ford, which has nothing to do with getting at the truth and everything to do with saving their own political hides, makes this even worse.  We support any decision Dr. Blasey Ford ultimately makes about her testimony.  But the repeated attempts to bully her are shocking.”
