Washington January 10, 2018 – Senate Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) yesterday released the following statement on Senators Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) and Cory Booker (D-N.J.) joining the committee:
“I want to welcome Senators Kamala Harris and Cory Booker to the Judiciary Committee. They will bring expertise on a wide range of issues from immigration to criminal justice to voting rights.
“Only one African American senator has served on the Judiciary Committee until now. The committee will benefit greatly from the perspective that Senators Harris and Booker bring to our work.
“Senator Harris served California with distinction as attorney general and district attorney. She has a deep understanding of criminal justice reform and the need to fix our immigration system. As the movement to combat sexual and workplace harassment grows, bringing another woman’s perspective to the committee will help us better address these vital issues. I’ve enjoyed working with her over the years and look forward to working with her on the committee.
“Senator Booker is a graduate of Yale Law School. He’s been a leader in the Senate on criminal justice reform, helping write the bill that passed the Judiciary Committee in 2015. He’s also been a leader in protecting the right to vote for all Americans, an issue that must be a top priority.
“The Judiciary Committee has jurisdiction over many critical issues facing our country and Senators Harris and Booker couldn’t be better suited to tackle them.”
