Washington, D.C. July 13, 2020 — More than three weeks after Trump’s loss at the Supreme Court, in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) cases, the Trump administration has yet to issue guidance on how they plan to comply with the Court’s ruling.

Complying with the Court’s ruling would mean that the administration must continue renewing protections for 650,000 current DACA recipients, open up advance parole, and reopen DACA to new applicants. According to new data from the Center For American Progress, an estimated 300,000 young immigrants, including 55,500 of the youngest DACA-eligible individuals who have aged into eligibility since Trump rescinded the program in 2017, would now be able to apply for the first time in light of the Court’s ruling.

This past Friday in a confusing interview with Telemundo, Trump claimed he would be releasing new plans for DACA in the coming weeks.

The Home Is Here Coalition – representing 100+ organizations across the country – released the following statement:

“Although the details of Trump’s plans for DACA weren’t clear in his latest game of charades, we know that he will try again to use the lives of DACA recipients as bargaining chips for his and Stephen Miller’s white supremacist immigration plans. He is mounting another attack on immigrants instead of focusing on recovery efforts for the growing number of COVID-19 cases. The Supreme Court’s decision fully restored the DACA program, which means that the Trump administration must begin accepting and processing new DACA applications and in addition to continuing to process renewal applications.

An overwhelming majority of the American people support DACA recipients and their families and they’d like the program to continue. Together, we call on the Trump administration to follow the Supreme Court ruling. Right now, there are thousands of undocumented young people who could receive protections from deportation, much needed protections that would keep families together and protected from ICE and CBP, which continue to terrorize communities across the country with their enforcement efforts.”

The Home Is Here national coalition is fighting to protect DACA recipients, their families, and all immigrant communities at the U.S. Supreme Court. DACA recipients are undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children. They are also our nurses, our teachers, our coworkers, our family members, and our friends — and their home is here.
