WASHINGTON, March 4, 2020 — The House today passed, on a bipartisan 415 to 2 vote, emergency supplemental appropriations legislation to address the coronavirus outbreak. The legislation now heads to the Senate for consideration.

The legislation provides $8.3 billion in all new funding for a robust response to the coronavirus, including support for state and local health agencies, vaccine and treatment development, and loans for affected small businesses to lessen the economic blow of this public health emergency.

“While the Trump administration has repeatedly demonstrated a failure to understand public health needs, Congress is acting with the seriousness and sense of urgency the coronavirus threat demands,” said House Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Nita M. Lowey. “This legislation is a critical first step to enable a strategic, coordinated, and whole-of-government response to the coronavirus and to keep Americans safe. The Senate should pass it quickly.”
