August 26, 2025 at 3:40 PM Late morning lightning strikes caused the current power outages in Plumas County on Tuesday. PG&E restored power from Monday nightโs lightning strikes. PG&E is responding and working to restore power lost when electric transmission lines were struck by lightning. As of Tuesday afternoon, about 10,000 customers are without power in Plumas County. PG&E is assessing and will have an estimated time of restoration for customers, who can call 800-PGE-5002 or visit www.pge.com/outages for updates on their power outage.

August 25, 2025 at 10:37 AM NWS update: Thunderstorms today will likely produce heavy rain, leading to flash flooding concerns especially in Shasta County. Thunderstorms will initially develop over the Sierra Crest in the early afternoon, and then further development will occur over the Coast Range, Shasta County and southern Cascades in the late afternoon through late evening hours. There is also a minor risk of debris flow concerns for the Park Fire burn scar from thunderstorms with heavy rain in nearby areas today and Tuesday. We will be monitoring these threats closely as we progress through the day. Thunderstorm chances return to the mountains once again on Tuesday and Wednesday. For Tuesday, thunderstorms may develop earlier in the morning over the Sierra south of US highway 50, before chances become more widespread across the mountains of interior NorCal in the afternoon.

Screenings are free and will take place daily from 6 a.m. to dusk on a first come, first served basis at the Cottage Creek and Dark Day boat launches. Each screening will take about five minutes and will check for visible signs of mussels, aquatic vegetation, mud, standing water or other risk factors such as recent use in infested waterways. Boats with visible mussels, excessive standing water, unknown mud or aquatic debris or recent use in infested waters will not be allowed to launch.
August 11, 2025 at 3:50 PM The cause of the Ponderosa fire has been identified as accidental by CAL FIRE Prevention Officers. Prevention Officers identified a subject who, while working on a vehicle with an impact wrench, caused sufficient friction to generate enough heat to cause the dry seasonal grasses to ignite. The subject attempted to extinguish the fire using hand tools and water but was unsuccessful. The subject called 911 and then waited near the scene of the fire for Prevention Officers and has been completely cooperative with CAL FIREโs investigation.

August 4, 2025 at 1:36 PM To quell rumors and speculations about this tragic case: NCSO confirms a 911 call came into the Sheriffโs Regional Dispatch Center at 4:54 p.m. yesterday for a baby left in a vehicle. NCSO responded to this call on the 11000 block of Ragan Way in Grass Valley in partnership with the Nevada County Consolidated Fire Department and Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital. Life saving measures were provided but sadly, a 15-month-old baby passed away. NCSO are the acting coroner in this case. No further details to share as the death is presently under investigation.
