December 9, 2025 – As community members and elected leaders, we condemn last week’s attack. Violence against any member of our community is unacceptable, especially when it is driven by racism.

This incident is not happening in isolation. Communities across the nation are experiencing similar hate-driven incidents. We are not immune to the broader pattern in which racialized attacks are becoming more visible. Incidents like this harm not only the person targeted, but the safety, trust and belonging of our entire community.

We cannot and will not allow violence like this to become normalized in our community. Allowing one act of hate to go unchallenged opens the door for more. These incidents erode our community’s sense of safety and undermine the values we stand for: respect, dignity and the right of every person to live free from violence and discrimination.

While we rely on our investigative and legal processes to uncover the facts and uphold our community values, we also recognize the emotional and psychological impact this incident has had on many of our community members. Acts of hate create fear and uncertainty, especially for those who have experienced discrimination before. We do not experience this moment from a distance- weโ€™re your neighbors, and we feel the weight of what this kind of violence does to our community. To those who feel targeted or fearful because of what happened, we see you and we stand with you.

We remain committed to working with local partners, community organizations and public safety agencies to prevent hate, support those affected and strengthen our commitment to safety and inclusion. We are not defined by acts of hate, but by how we come together to confront them, with unity and a shared commitment to stand up for each other.
