Peardale/Chicago Park, Calif. January 27, 2026 – Today, we recognize and honor Peardale Chicago Park Fire Chief Jim Bierwagen as he officially concludes his 48 years serving Nevada County in the Peardale Chicago Park community.

Chief Bierwagen started his career in August 1977 as a volunteer firefighter at the Peardale Chicago Park Fire Department. In 1984 he was voted in as volunteer Fire Chief for the department. In 1991 he received a promotion, and became the full-time Fire Chief. Chief Bierwagen has been an essential part of the Peardale Chicago Park Fire Department, and remains a fixture in the community that he has served.

Throughout his career, Fire Chief Bierwagen has earned the respect of his colleagues both as a leader as well as a knowledgeable mentor. His influence on current and past members of the department will last for years to come.

Chief Bierwagen was deeply involved in the growth of the volunteer program at the department and also spearheaded the expansion of the department into a combination station, serving the community by providing full time staffing.

He is widely respected and well known for his knowledge of the area and all operations within the department. Chief Bierwagen was also deeply involved in out of county strike teams. He led a countless number of strike teams. Most notably the Lobo Fire, Camp Fire, and the Kincade Fire. Chief Bierwagen will always be remembered for his positive attitude, willingness to work, his story telling, and his never ending trivia questions.

Chief Jim Bierwagen, it has been an honor to work with and alongside you. Thank you for all of your service and dedication to the community you serve. We wish you all the best as you move into retirement.
