Fostering Future Readers with the “Read Me A Story” Program

Adding to the rich educational offerings, the Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Foundation’s “Read Me A Story” program will be one of the many booths featured at the carnival. As part of their commitment to early literacy, the program will be giving away free books to children attending the event.

Since its inception in 1998, the “Read Me A Story” program has provided over 73,000 free books at pediatric offices throughout Western Nevada County to children through eight years of age. This initiative encourages families to read together, fostering a love of learning and helping children reach their full potential upon entering kindergarten.

“We are delighted to partner with the Health, Safety, and Fire Preparedness Carnival to further our mission of promoting early literacy,” said Sandra Barrington, SNMH Foundation Executive Director. “When a child is exposed to reading from a young age, it truly opens up a world of possibilities – improving their academic performance, strengthening family bonds, and sparking their imagination.

Giving away books at this community event is a perfect way to reinforce the joy and importance of reading.”

At each well-child visit where the “Read Me A Story” program is active, children receive a book and parents are provided with age-appropriate information, tips on reading together, book lists, and other engaging activities.

The 21st Annual Health, Safety & Fire Preparedness Carnival is a fantastic opportunity for residents to engage with local safety officials, learn life-saving information, and enjoy a day of family fun.

Don’t miss this important and exciting community event!
