Nevada County animal lovers will have multiple opportunities to meet adoptable pets and welcome a new furry family member during California Adopt-a-Pet Day on Saturday, June 6.

All fees will be waived for those who adopt a pet that day. That includes the adoption fee, rabies vaccination, microchipping and licensing for Nevada County residents. All adoptable pets are spayed or neutered and are current on flea, tick and heartworm prevention.

The adoptions are sponsored by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), which will reimburse the Nevada County Animal Shelter through a grant.  The goal is to find loving forever homes for dogs and cats.

Adoptable pets can be found on Sammieโ€™s Friend website at sammiesfriends.org/adopt.ย

Community members can also meet adoptable animals and learn about adoption opportunities at three locations throughout the day:

  • BriarPatch Food Co-opย โ€” 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. 290 Sierra College Drive, Grass Valley. Sammieโ€™s Friends will attend.ย
  • Nevada County Animal Shelterย โ€” Noon to 4:30 p.m. 14647 McCourtney Road, Grass Valley.ย
  • Grass Valley Library – Summer Learning Kickoffย โ€” 1 to 3 p.m. with volunteers from Sammieโ€™s Friends. 207 Mill St.ย

โ€œHelp us clear the shelter and find loving forever homes for dogs, cats and kittens,โ€ said Lorie Hennessey, Nevada County Animal Shelter administrative services officer.
