NEVADA CITY, Calif., October 28, 2026 – On Friday, the U.S. Department of Justice hand-delivered a letter of demand to the Nevada County Elections requesting the investigation of ten (10) names and to set aside any ballots submitted by them. Nevada County has 80,880 eligible voters and 76,661 of those are registered voters, according to the September 4, 2026 report of registration by the Secretary of State.

According to the Elections Office:

Nevada County Elections takes concerns about voter eligibility seriously and has reviewed a list of 10 individuals flagged by the U.S. Department of Justice as “likely non-citizens.” The review found no evidence of non-citizen voting in the November 3, 2026 Election.

Of those 10 people, one has no record of registration in Nevada County. Seven have registrations that were either canceled or inactive before Nevada County Elections received the demand letter and therefore have not been issued ballots for the upcoming election nor have any record of voting. The remaining two voters are currently registered. Both attested to United States citizenship under penalty of perjury in their most recent registration records.

The ten names were part of a list of more than 20,000 names alleged to be “likely numerous noncitizens registered to vote in the federal election in California.” The DOJ’s letter stated:

Within 48 hours, we ask that you commit to working with DOJ and DHS to identify who on the accompanying list is a citizen and who is not. That means sending us the nonpublic information associated with each suspected alien’s registration which includes everything in your possession from the following: a social security number, a copy of a state ID or driver’s license or the information that appears on it, a copy of the voter registration application supporting the registration, and a copy or list of documents that were presented by the registrant at the time the person registered to vote or obtained their driver’s license if registered as part of motor voter.
