Nevada City, Calif. – Ballots go in the mail Monday, Oct. 5, and early in-person voting for the Nov. 3 General Election starts the same day at the new-ish Ballot Processing Center, 12740 Loma Rica Drive, near the Nevada County Airport. Early voting at the center runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, excluding holidays, through Oct. 23.

Vote Centers

Starting Saturday, Oct. 24, voters can use the Providence Mine Room at the Rood Center, 950 Maidu Ave., Nevada City, or the Truckee Tahoe Airport Community Room, 10356 Truckee Airport Road, Truckee. Both are open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through Nov. 2 and 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day.

Six more vote centers open Saturday, Oct. 31, with the same hours through Election Day:

  • Higgins Lions Community Center, 22490 E. Hacienda Drive, Grass Valley

The North San Juan Community Center, 29190 Highway 49, is open on Election Day only, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The county’s 18 official ballot drop boxes open Sunday, Oct. 4, and take ballots until 8 p.m. on Election Day:

Pilot Program

Elections staff move to the Ballot Processing Center on Friday, Oct. 2, and will work from there until the election is certified. Voters can still use the drop boxes at the Rood Center, but no other election work will happen there until certification.

“Moving election operations allows us to consolidate our processes in one location, which helps our staff work more efficiently and better coordinate the many activities involved in administering an election,” Clerk-Recorder/Registrar of Voters Armando Salud-Ambriz said in a news release.

The Elections Office is treating the Loma Rica site as a pilot. “This is a pilot early voting location, and we want to hear from voters about their experience,” Salud-Ambriz said.

Election observers are welcome. The public can watch ballot opening, sorting and signature verification in person at the center or on Nevada County’s YouTube Live channel.
