NEVADA COUNTY, Calif. — Olivia Pritchett is seeking a second term on the Nevada Joint Union High School District Board of Trustees, representing Trustee Area 1.
“Serving on the school board has deepened my understanding of our district, its strengths, and the challenges ahead,” Pritchett said. “Over the past four years, we’ve strengthened the district’s financial footing, seen improvement in student achievement, and worked to make sure students are heard. I’m running for a second term to build on that progress—raising expectations, expanding opportunities after graduation, and making sure every student has the support to succeed.”
In her first term, Pritchett has worked to strengthen relationships across the school community, bring greater attention to the district’s finances, and keep student concerns central to board decisions. Her priorities for a second term include:
- Student safety and well-being: Listening to students about decisions that affect them, ensuring discipline concerns receive prompt and transparent responses, and recognizing that students learn best when they feel safe and supported.
- Financially strong schools: Advocate for stable funding that reflects the needs of rural districts, spend public dollars where they clearly benefit students and staff, and make district finances easier to understand while remaining accountable for every investment.
- Responsible use of technology: Helping students build digital literacy and academic integrity while giving teachers the training they need to use new tools thoughtfully.
- A path forward for every student: Maintaining strong academics while expanding opportunities for students to explore university, community college, skilled trades, and careers, including through community and business partnerships.
“Students should have the chance to discover what interests them and graduate prepared for the path that fits their goals,” Pritchett said. “That takes strong schools, teachers whose expertise is valued, and a community willing to invest in young people.”
Pritchett is a local small-business owner, a longtime community volunteer, and the parent of three recent NJUHSD graduates. Before joining the board, she was deeply involved in the community through local schools, the arts, youth athletics, healthcare, and nonprofit organizations. Years of firsthand experience as a district parent shaped her commitment to advocating for every student and ensuring that the students and families who come next have the same opportunities to learn, grow, and find their own paths to success.
“I know our district faces difficult choices,” Pritchett said. “I’m ready to keep listening, asking questions, and doing the work to make decisions that serve students and strengthen our schools.”
