December 7, 2016 – The Nevada County Consolidated Fire District was recently awarded an Assistance to Firefighters Grant from FEMA in the amount of $97,367. These highly competitive grants are to enhance the safety of the public and firefighters by providing direct financial assistance to eligible fire departments for critically needed resources to equip emergency personnel.
These funds are being utilized to purchase and install direct capture exhaust removal systems at their Banner Mountain, Alta Sierra and Highway 49 Fire Stations. These systems capture and remove hazardous exhaust gases in the stations created by the fire apparatus.
Hazardous vehicle exhaust emissions in fire stations are a significant cancer and health risk to our firefighters.
Construction began on this project in late November and is anticipated to be completed in approximately 30 days.
