Grass Valley, Calif. January 17, 2020 – What we eat, and how we grow it, has a primary role in our personal health and the health of planet.  On February 7 – 9, 2020, Sierra Harvest’s Sustainable Food & Farm Conference will feature one of the world’s most dynamic and provocative thinkers on agriculture and ecology, Dr. Vandana Shiva, to inspire more local solutions for personal and ecological health.

Food producers, home gardeners and foodies have been gathering in Grass Valley for the Sustainable Food and Farm Conference for 10 years to learn first-hand from local and international experts in the sustainable food and farming movement and make connections to strengthen their agricultural business, upgrade their home garden practices and enhance their organic and ecological food production.

The conference features a full day of national and international heroes from the sustainable food movement on Saturday, February 8. In addition to Dr. Vandana Shiva, Paul and Elizabeth Kaiser of Singing Frogs Farm will share their award-winning regenerative farming techniques that have proven to increase both ecological health and profits.  Jim Gerrish, international consultant for restoring rangelands, will help farmers and ranchers get the most of their pastures through high intensity grazing.

Local experts take the stage on Sunday, February 9, offering 20 food and farm workshops for a wide scope of interests across farmers, ranchers, home gardeners and foodies. Topics range from training livestock herding dogs, how to make traditional Italian cured meats, growing cut flowers, grazing for fire suppression, making easy soft cheeses, and more.

The Sustainable Food & Farm Conference, first developed in 2010 by local farmers, is designed to support farmers, ranchers, homesteaders, and gardeners to adopt innovative, sustainable practices that promote nutrient dense food and a healthier environment.

Ticket prices are kept relatively low to make this education more accessible. to the Nevada County community. In addition, discounts are available to farmers and ranchers and a limited number of scholarships are available to students.
