Nevada City, Calif. โ€“ Nevada County, the City of Nevada City, and the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce are bringing Halloween fun to downtown Nevada City with the fifth annual Nevada City Halloween Spooktacular and Spooky Boooky Book Giveaway on Friday, Oct. 30, from 3-5 p.m.

The people behind the Halloween magic! County staff welcomed trick-or-treaters to the Government Center for the 2024 Halloween Spooktacular. This year’s event takes place on Friday, Oct. 30, from 3-5 p.m.

This free, family-friendly celebration has something for everyone, from trick-or-treating through County departments to a community book giveaway, face painting, music, games, and more.

Families can park at the Nevada County Government Center, make their way through the Halloween Spooktacular, head to the Madelyn Helling Library for the Spooky Boooky Book Giveaway, and then walk or take the free shuttle downtown to continue the festivities.

Nevada County Connects will run a free shuttle between the Government Center, Madelyn Helling Library and City Hall every 15 minutes until 7 p.m.

Halloween Spooktacular at the Government Center

Step through the doors of the Nevada County Government Center and discover a different Halloween theme around every corner. County departments will transform their spaces and hand out candy to trick-or-treaters as part of this annual community celebration.

The Spooktacular is a gift to the community from County staff and community partners who donate their time, candy and creativity to transform the Government Center into an exciting Halloween destination.

โ€œThe County is honored to have the community at the Government Center for the Spooktacular, while we provide a safe, family-friendly space where kids of all ages can celebrate and enjoy Halloween,โ€ said County Executive Officer Alison Lehman.

Spooky Boooky Book Giveaway at Madelyn Helling Library

This campus-wide celebration wouldnโ€™t be complete without a stop at the Madelyn Helling Library where literacy for our youngest Nevada County residents is the focus. In partnership with the Child Abuse Prevention Council of Western Nevada County, the library will host the Spooky Boooky Book Giveaway along with face painting, healthy snacks, story times and more. Families will have the chance to interact with community partners including First 5 of Nevada County, Gold Country Kiwanis, PARTNERS Family Resource Center, and many others to learn helpful information about local resources and services.

Trick-or-Treat in the downtown Nevada City business district

From the Government Center, hop on the free Nevada County Connects shuttle and head downtown for more Halloween fun. Participating businesses in downtown Nevada City will welcome trick-or-treaters, while the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce will host games and music for attendees, including music in Robinson Plaza.

Once youโ€™ve filled your trick-or-treat bags, take the free shuttle from City Hall back to the Government Center, which runs until 7 p.m.
