Nevada City Calif. – Ballots are in the mail for the June 2, 2026 Statewide Direct Primary Election.

Voters will consider a range of federal, state and local races, including candidates for governor and other statewide offices, U.S. House of Representatives, state Senate and Assembly, and county and city positions. The ballot also features three local measures focused on school bonds and a road tax renewal. It is important to note that during the ballot creation phase of the election process, the Elections Office confirmed that the Superior Court judges do not need to appear on ballot if not contested. Since none of those races were contested, they will not appear on the ballot.

Voter information guides from the state and County were mailed April 23. If you have not received a guide, call the Elections Office at 530-265-1298 or view the guides online at www.NevadaCountyCa.gov/June2Election.

Voters may return their ballots immediately in the mail or use drop boxes throughout the county through Election Day. This election includes one new vote center (Sierra College) and additional drop box locations to improve access for voters. For locations and hours, visit www.NevadaCountyCa.gov/votehere. Voters may also vote in person at the Elections Office, 950 Maidu Ave., Nevada City from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.

Those who choose to return their ballots by mail are reminded that timing of postmarks matters. Only ballots postmarked by June 2 will be counted. To ensure a timely postmark, drop the ballot in the mail no later than May 29 (the Friday before Election Day). If that’s not possible, walk inside the post office and ask a clerk for a free hand-cancelled postmark or use an official drop box or vote center.

The deadline to register to vote in this election and receive a ballot in the mail is May 18. You can register in person after that date and vote but your ballot likely won’t be counted on Election Night. Register to vote at registertovote.ca.gov.
