April 23, 2019 – CAL FIRE firefighters with Higgins Fire Protection District responded to the report of a vegetation fire on Perimeter Road (Nevada County). When firefighters arrived they found an escaped vegetation burn pile in the green grass. Firefighters were able to stop the fire at 8.6 acres.

Although the vegetation appears green, underneath is dry and will carry fire especially with significant wind as we had today. It’s important to stay with your burn pile and make sure you have clearance down to bare mineral soil (dirt) to prevent losing control. If you leave your pile make sure it is completely extinguished.

Thanks to an observant neighbor this fire, started two days before by the homeowner, was caught before it could damage nearby homes and other structures.

The Placer County CCC hand crew assisted by cutting line around the fire to stop spread while firefighters extinguished the flames.
