CATS opens its 30th season with the acclaimed, Snow Falling on Cedars, based on the 1994 best-selling novel by David Guterson.  The novel was adapted to the stage by Kevin McKeon, who also directs the show. Regular performances at the Nevada Theatre are from April 26 to May 18, and tickets are now available at www.catsweb.org.

The play is appropriate for seventh to twelfth graders.  It utilizes the Book-it style of acting in adapting great literature to the stage.  Not only will students experience this unique style of acting, but one of the subplots focuses on history — the plight of the Japanese during WWII — through President Roosevelt’s Executive Order 9066 — which resulted in the removal of 120,000 from their homes in the Pacific northwest to incarceration camps throughout the U.S. from 1942 to 1945.  We thank Community Players Trust for underwriting the student matinee performance.

If you are an educator or teacher, partner with CATS and bring your students to the Friday, May 3, 10:00 a.m. show, to experience an educational and powerful drama.

There will be a study guide to assist the educators in preparing their students and a talk-back with the cast after the show.  In addition to the educational aspects of the play, Snow Falling on Cedars is a gripping story of “who done it,” suspense, forbidden love, and atonement.
