GRASS VALLEY, Calif. April 5, 2017 – Maestro David B. Weiller directs the celebrated Chamber Chorale of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, in a free performance at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 9, at PEACE Lutheran Church in Grass Valley.
This 20-voice advanced ensemble will sing a varied and entertaining program of sacred and secular music. Singers perform a cappella and accompanied on piano. Their repertoire includes works by Grammy award-winning composer Eric Whitacre, who was a student of Weiller’s.
Other works are by Josquin des Prez, John Wilbye, Claudio Monteverdi, Georg Philipp Telemann, Claude Debussy and Gerald Finzi; American composers Libby Larsen, Kirke Mechem, Stephen Paulus and David Brunner; and world music arranged by Ethan Sperry and Daniel Alfonso.
“The orchestra, the soloists and the choruses performed with unaffected charisma,” the Las Vegas Review-Journal declared. Their singing is “glorious yet disciplined.”
For 33 years, Director Weiller has lead UNLV’s Choral Studies department, where he was named “Teacher of the Year.” He recently was appointed artistic director and conductor of the Las Vegas Master Singers, a beloved community choral organization sponsored by the UNLV School of Music. It is also the chorus-in-residence for the Las Vegas Philharmonic.
Weiller has conducted more than 60 stage productions at the university and for the College Light Opera Company on Cape Cod, where he conducts the Gilbert & Sullivan canon, Viennese and early American operettas, and Broadway classics.
Grass Valley is a stop on the Chorale’s annual Southwest concert tour.
