SAN FRANCISCO, CA, Sept. 30, 2026 – There was a strong response from the Truckee community at events designed to make it easier for homeowners to explore affordable insurance alternatives and get DIY wildfire resilience solutions for their homes. Earlier this month, Delos Insurance Solutions, a California-based, science-driven insurance provider, teamed up with the Truckee Fire Protection District, Truckee Mountain Hardware and Sports, Tahoe Donner Association, and Sierra Business Council to provide three different opportunities for Town of Truckee, California, residents struggling with insurance accessibility.

Locals flocked to connect with experts, including one resident who spontaneously hugged Delos CEO, Kevin Stein, after a local broker secured several hundred dollars of savings on their homeowner premiums. Some residents, driving past one event, even stopped their cars to come over and discuss their insurance options before driving on.

“The Town of Truckee has been on the leading edge of wildfire resilience, scaling community fuel reduction and resilience planning. But despite their hard work, much of the community is stuck on the FAIR plan.” Says Jessica Morse, former Deputy Secretary at the California Natural Resources Agency and Delos consultant. “Delos Insurance organized a community event at Mountain Hardware in Truckee for people to just walk up and talk to an agent about insurance options beyond the FAIR plan. They also received pro tips, coupons, and were able to pick up supplies to fire-harden their homes. We just want people to know they don’t have to figure it all out on their own.”

Delos CEO Kevin Stein presented Mayor Anna Klovstad of the Town of Truckee and employees of Truckee Fire’s Wildfire Prevention Division with a Recognition of Insurance Accessibility Award for the community’s work to increase wildfire resilience.

“Truckee has invested heavily in wildfire mitigation, and it is rewarding to see an insurance provider recognize those efforts in its coverage model. Their commitment to offering Truckee residents accessible, affordable options – and a path off the FAIR Plan – is a major step forward for our community,” said Anna Klovstad, Mayor of Town of Truckee.

At the dedicated event outside Truckee Mountain Hardware and Sports; Delos, Truckee Fire Protection District, independent insurance brokers, and First Alert joined together to answer community questions on home insurance options and wildfire resilience, with visitors to Truckee Mountain Hardware and Sports receiving a 20% discount on home wildfire resilience-related products.

“Being employee owners, this event just made sense for the community and what we do here. We’re offering the 20% coupon through October 18th, towards anything that’ll help harden your home. So, fire screens, fire tarps, shovels, rakes, loppers, anything to make your home safer from fire.” Said Doug Farley, Employee Owner, Mountain Hardware and Sports, Truckee.

Delos participated in two additional local community events, to engage residents in discussions around insurance options. Delos and local insurance brokers joined Sierra Business Council at the Truckee Block Party to answer locals’ questions about insurance and, in particular, what may be available beyond the FAIR plan.

“Truckee and communities across the Sierra are working hard to reduce wildfire risk and address housing affordability, but the affordability crisis is being compounded by the insurance crisis,” said Steve Frisch, president of Sierra Business Council. “We’re encouraged to see Delos Insurance engaging directly with the Truckee community, recognizing the investments our community has made in wildfire resilience, and creating new pathways for residents to access private insurance and move off the FAIR Plan.”

The Tahoe Donner Association invited Delos to discuss insurance accessibility at an exclusive event for their 24,000 members. Former CA Insurance Commissioner and local resident, Dave Jones, spoke at the event and local insurance brokers were there to answer questions and provide insurance options.

“For decades, the Tahoe Donner Association has focused on protecting the landscape and homes from wildfires. To achieve this, Tahoe Donner has implemented various projects aimed at improving forest health, reducing fuel, and creating defensible spaces. It is both refreshing and encouraging to see an insurance company like Delos acknowledge these efforts by reflecting them in actual policy rates. In addition to providing affordable insurance that recognizes the work of Tahoe Donner, this also supports and recognizes all the individual homeowners in Tahoe Donner for their defensible space efforts,” commented Jason Hajduk-Dorworth, Director of Administrative Services, Tahoe Donner Association.

Hundreds of thousands of homeowners are struggling to find accessible, affordable insurance, with nearly 700,000 still relying on the California FAIR Plan (June 2026). Delos’ mission is to expand access to insurance options for homeowners and support wildfire resilience measures.

Delos’ scientific research shows that when actions at the home, neighborhood, and landscape scales are aligned, they can meaningfully reduce loss potential and improve suppression success. This, in turn, assists the private insurance market to offer more options to homeowners.

“I was touched by the overwhelming response to our events. We are born and bred in California, and many of our employees have been personally touched by wildfire. For us, improving insurance accessibility and affordability is our mission, not simply business. We are striving to do everything we can to give homeowners the best insurance options possible. These events are designed to recognize the challenges local communities, like Truckee, are facing in obtaining insurance and, by bringing different organizations together, help provide a sustainable way forward”, commented Stein.

Adding, “Our deep scientific understanding of wildfire behavior enables Delos to offer homeowners insurance premiums and coverage that is based on their specific land parcel, not simply zip code or neighborhood. We want homeowners to be able to find options in the broader private insurance market rather than solely the California FAIR plan.”

“Truckee Fire is the community’s partner in wildfire prevention, and working alongside residents and insurance companies to mitigate risk is a natural extension of our fire prevention and safety programs,” said Eric Horntvedt, wildfire prevention manager for Truckee Fire Protection District. “These programs include Measure T-funded defensible space evaluations and home hardening rebates of up to $2,000.”

Delos’ Insurance Accessibility Award recognized the Town of Truckee and its residents for improving insurance accessibility through community action and a strong commitment to wildfire resilience, including the Town’s listing in the Board of Forestry’s Fire Risk Reduction Communities. These resilience measures enable Delos to see the vast majority of Truckee as insurable. Delos currently insurer hundreds of homes across the broader Truckee area and it looks forward to significantly expanding that support for this community. It looks forward to working with the community and local insurance agents to further increase support for insurance accessibility initiatives for Town of Truckee residents in the coming months and years.

The events in Truckee were part of a proactive campaign with further events planned for other communities in the coming months. Homeowners looking to explore their insurance options should talk to their local broker or complete this information form, and an independent, local insurance broker will contact them.
