PENN VALLEY, Calif. April 29, 2019 – This morning at 6:08 AM Penn Valley Fire Protection District resources were notified of a residential structure fire at the 12000 Block of Shephard Road in Big Oak Valley.

Units arrived on scene at 6:17 AM to find light smoke showing from a single-story residence. The Incident Commander was notified by the resident of a burn victim that was on the deck of the structure. Paramedic Engine Companies 43 and 44 initiated patient care and extinguished the fire. The patient had suffered severe burns and was transported by Sierra Nevada Ambulance, with Penn Valley Paramedics, to an awaiting Air Ambulance at Western Gateway Park, where the patient was transferred and flown to UC Davis Medical Center for further treatment.

The fire was deemed accidental in nature with no foul play suspected and took approximately twenty minutes to extinguish and was contained to the room of origin. Penn Valley Fire was assisted by engines from Grass Valley City Fire Department and Rough & Ready Fire Department.
