GRASS VALLEY, Calif. June 4, 2017 – A vegetation fire was reported at 1:28 pm and all units responded to the given location on Railroad Avenue in Grass Valley.  Upon the arrival of Engine 2, it was reported a 50’ X 50’ fire moderate rate of spread.  The fire was reported by neighbors after seeing flames and smoke coming from the field.

The fire was bordered on 3 sides by a creek at the bottom and roads at the head and left flank. Perimeter control was our first priority with the fire being contained to .41 acres at 1:57pm.  The crews continued with mop up and line construction with the fire being controlled / extinguished at 3:22pm.

The fire was contained 0.41 acres with no structures or vehicles being damaged. The cause was determined to be an escaped cooking fire from a transient camp.

Grass Valley Fire E1, E2, E84, E5482, Battalion 2 and Prevention 2 were assisted by CAL FIRE Cal Fire E2352.

All units cleared at 3:22pm.
