NEVADA CITY, Calif. August 4, 2016 – Nevada County Fire JOA summed up today perfectly:
“This courageous 7-year old has been battling a form of leukemia, today he battled fire! Nevada County Consolidated, Grass Valley Fire, Nevada City Fire, Grass Valley CHP, Sierra Nevada Ambulance, Penn Valley Fire, Local 3800 Professional Firefighters, Reach Air, Cal Fire, Grass Valley Police, Nevada City Police, Sierra College Fire Academy and many more organizations packed Fire Station 84 this morning while Dawson was pinned as an Honorary Nevada County Firefighter.
The morning consisted of an authentic firehouse breakfast followed by the ceremony and the issuance of his personalized protective gear. He would soon put his gear to work responding to a medical emergency where FF Dawson saved the day!
Acting swiftly and bravely, Dawson loaded the patient into the ambulance with the help of his sister Harlie.
The crew then went responding to our Joint Training Center located behind Grass Valley Fire Station 2 for a rendezvous with a medical helicopter.

To his surprise, Dawson and his sister were loaded into the helicopter and the flown around the county! Upon returning from his flight, Dawson jumped on the fire engine and responded to a live fire and quickly extinguished it!
This heroic young man not only did an outstanding job being a firefighter but he reminded all of us career firefighters to continue to be role models.
We thank Dawson and his family wholeheartedly for being with us today. Continue to be strong and fight a good fight! We love you Dawson.”
