May 5, 2026 — The Board of Directors of the Fire Safe Council of Nevada County was recently informed that the Executive Director and her husband have been charged with multiple counts, including allegations of financial misconduct. We are taking immediate steps to assess how this development affects the Fire Safe Council’s mission and operations.

A special meeting of the Board of Directors has been called for Wednesday, May 6 at 10:00 am at the Fire Safe Council meeting room, 590 Searls Ave, Ste 1, Nevada City.   After the standard opening, the meeting will go into closed session.

At this time, programs and services remain operational. We continue to carry out the critical work we provide to our communities.

We understand the seriousness of these allegations and the concern they may raise for our donors, supporters, partners, and the communities we serve. We currently do not have information about the circumstances that led to the charges. We are committed to transparency and will share updates as additional details become available.
