SACRAMENTO March 29, 2019 – Governor Gavin Newsom today announced the following appointment:

Jessica Morse, 37, of Pollock Pines, has been appointed Deputy Secretary of Forest Resources Management at the California Natural Resources Agency. Morse was a candidate for California’s 4th Congressional District in 2018. She was a budget analyst with the U.S. Agency for International Development from 2012 to 2015, a strategic policy advisor with the U.S. Pacific Command from 2010 to 2012, Iraq country coordinator for the U.S. Department of State from 2007 to 2008 and national capacity development coordinator for the U.S. Agency for International Development from 2005 to 2006. Morse earned a Master of Public Administration degree in national security and nuclear non-proliferation from Princeton University. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $165,000. Morse is a Democrat.

Morse has done extensive study of forest management in her forums with local members of the mountain communities in all 10 counties in CD4, and has a deep understanding of the sustainable forest management practices needed to return our forests to healthy, well-managed resources. Healthy forest provide healthy ecosystems. I have confidence she will work with all concerned parties to develop well-reasoned practices that are fair to all concerned, regardless of party. Great appointment!
