NEVADA COUNTY, Calif. December 19, 2016 – Caltrans is alerting motorists to expect delays on State Route 49 north of Nevada City as continued work in the location of a December 12 rock slide will require one-way traffic controls and intermittent full roadway closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2016. The slide has been cleaned off the roadway but rock scaling operations to remove rocks at risk of falling will take place December 20.

Additionally, maintenance drain cleaning work in the area will take advantage of the lane closure in order to not further inconvenience travelers. Motorists are likely to experience traffic delays and are encouraged to to plan for additional travel time through the area.

Weather or unexpected events may delay or prolong the work. Caltrans advises motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert.”

  1. It would be helpful if a more detailed description of the location of this work were given. It’s a pretty significant distance between Nevada City and North San Juan. There are certainly more dangerous areas of roadway in the canyon areas than on some of the staight-aways.

    1. Since the news release pertains to the latest significant rock slide, the work will take place near Nishinam Gulch Road. CHP will be on scene to provide traffic control.
