December 10, 2018 – Last night, patrol deputies were dispatched to the 17000 block of You Bet Road after passersby located a 50-year-old man on the side of the road with a severe laceration to his throat. Original reports to our patrol deputies indicated the injury was the result of a mountain lion attack; however, a joint investigation between this agency and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife has found this claim to be unsubstantiated.

Presently, sheriff’s detectives are on scene, and a warrant is being sought for the victim’s residence and property in the 17000 block of You Bet Road, where we believe the injuries were sustained.

Our agency is investigating this incident as an assault – no arrests have been made and this investigation is active and ongoing.

As always, anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit at (530)265-1263.
