NEVADA CITY, Calif. August 3, 2017 – During a four-hour period on Wednesday afternoon, 81 strikes were detected within the Tahoe National Forest. 13 for the American River Ranger District, 55 for the Truckee Ranger District, 12 for the Sierraville Ranger District and 1 for the Yuba River Ranger District.
Two fires were reported late last night, a single tree with some ground fire was dubbed the Alpine Fire and the Sawtooth Fire on the Truckee Ranger District was contained this morning at 1/2 acre.
Both fires and any new starts will be monitored throughout the day. Lightning is again forecast for the afternoon, with some precipitation possible.
