These collected works from 2021 to the present feature his newly explored “tangle” motif. The tangles, one continuous line intertwined and weaved into itself, have come to represent the artist’s mental state.

Hioki equates these tangles as maps of mental stresses, intrusive and repetitive thoughts, and the circular nature of all things.

Born and raised in San Jose California, he began his artistic endeavors drawing his favorite cartoon and video game characters as a child.

His formal study of graphic design at the California College of the Arts heavily informed his work, particularly in his practice of collage which allows him to experiment with composition.

His new work has become much more personal, as mysterious figures, objects, patterns, and landscapes become representations of memories, anxieties, and the world he sees around him.

There will be an opening reception on Saturday, April 13th from 5-8p, with light bites and beverages.

The exhibition will run from April 13 through May 11, 2024. This event is free and open to the public.
